Birthday Present from France

Image
And my birthday present arrived today. I love when my letters are sent with cool stamps. I purchased this lovely set of French commemoratives and semi-postals from Sarl Pecheur de Timbres. Shipment was quick, packaging was solid and thoughtful. And the stamps, well, they are lovely. I received a total of 36 stamps issued between 1953 and 1955. The Scott 2014 catalog value is over $155.00. This set is a perfect example of why I want to extend documenting my collection beyond the Classics and Part 1. Parts 2 and 3 have cool and highly collectible stamps.  Here are the commemoratives and the semi-postals laid out in my stock book. I received full sets of Sports, Industries, and Inventors. The Semi-Postals included three Red Cross sets, and the first two stamps from the Portraits sets of 1954. The Portraits set is not complete, and I am not complaining as the 2014 catalog value used is $21.00 each the Saint Louis and Bousset I all ready have the Sports and the Industries sets, ho...

Beginnings

The purpose of this blog is to document my stamp collecting activities and collection. My focus is on the world Classics along with the WW2 and post War recovery years (1840-1955). I am housing my collection in the Scott Internationals, Parts 1 through 3. I'll be working from two different versions of Part 1 as well older versions of Parts 2 and 3. Being a database professional by trade, my method is to assign each page and each space a unique number, collecting Scott numbers and other information along the way. This way I will be able to provide a variety of stats that are difficult to retrieve using spreadsheets. Here are some basic stats from the initial results of my efforts. I will come up with more, such as minimal catalog cost for each Part. Many thanks to Jim Jackson from http://bigblue1840-1940.blogspot.com/, along with Bob from Filling Spaces, and Dilip Lemaye and his spreadsheet. I will be building on their work as they have inspired me.
